Elain Harwood

Elain Harwood is an architectural investigator with English Heritage, having herself completed the Building Conservation course in 1986 with a thesis on Britain’s disappearing Victorian mental asylums. She has since gone on to specialise in twentieth century architecture and to become an authority on the post-1945 period in particular. She completed a PhD on London’s South Bank in 2010 and a major book, ‘Space, Hope and Brutalism, English architecture 1945-1975’, will appear later in 2014. She is the course’s adviser on twentieth-century topics.
