Robert Thorne

Robert Thorne is an engineering and construction historian with almost forty years experience in building conservation, at the GLC, English Heritage and (since 1990) Alan Baxter & Associates. Amongst the buildings he has worked on are Liverpool Street Station, Leeds Grand Theatre, Covent Garden Market, the Midland Grand Hotel at St.Pancras and St.Martin-in-the-Fields. Most recently he has been advising Network Rail on the electrification of historic railway routes. He has taught at Stanford University, the Bartlett (UCL) and Liverpool University and he is the author of a number of books on 19th. century engineering and architecture.
